Eagle River’s Lauren Murphy won the biggest fight of her professional career with a third-round TKO of Italy’s Mara Romero Borella in a fight between top-20 contenders at UFC Newark in New Jersey.
The 36-year-old veteran fighter improved her career record to 11-4, with eight wins coming by knockout.
Murphy’s win was incredibly impressive in the fact that she’s just the fifth UFC female fighter to win by knockout from a knee strike.

This was her first win since December 2017 after losing her previous UFC fight last summer.
She is now 2-4 in the UFC.
Murphy, of Chugiak High fame, is ranked No. 11 among UFC flyweights; Borella 18th.
In the third round, Murphy landed a nice uppercut before dropping the Italian fighter with a killer knee strike. Murphy then ended the fight with a flurry of blows that forced the referee to stop it.
