Ross places 23rd at XTerra World Championship in Hawaii
Will Ross of Anchorage placed 23rd among 390 men at the XTerra World Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.
Competing in the pro division, Ross finished the race billed as the world’s premier off-road triathlon in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 55 seconds. He recorded splits of 25:15 for the 1-mile swim, 1:35:45 for the 19.2-mile bike and 50:02 for the 6.5-mile run.
“My goal was to get through the swim in one piece, smash the bike and survive the run,” said Ross, who dealt with a plantar fasciitis injury in training. “I’m proud of my effort during the race, but not satisfied with my performance.”
Ross’ wife, Andrea Kettler, finished in 3:53:04 to place eighth in the women’s 35-39 division. Rose Garner of Anchorage clocked 4:41:34 to take eighth in the women’s 50-54 division.
