In first start, Nero rewards College of Idaho with 7 tackles, pick
Back in the starting lineup for the first time since last year, Wasilla’s Jordan Nero rewarded the College of Idaho with an excellent effort.
The senior linebacker registered seven tackles and intercepted a pass as the No. 6 Coyotes beat No. 24 Montana Western 38-27 in Idaho to stay undefeated and clinch the NAIA Frontier Conference championship.
For the first time since restoring its football program in 2014 — and since 1955 overall — the College of Idaho (9-0) has won a conference title.
With his team trailing 20-17, Nero pulled down his first interception since 2016 that led to a touchdown that gave the Coyotes the lead for good.
Nero, of Colony High fame, has 94 tackles and two picks in 33 career games.
He started the first five games last year before an injury shut down his season.
