Kimber, Lucas, Andrews highlight Alaska contingent in Missouri

With six women on the mats, and three of them placing, Alaska wrestling was well represented at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.

Syndee Kimber of Sitka, Agatha Andrews of Akiak and Jolie Lucas of Fairbanks each earned podium finishes to highlight the contingent of Alaskans at the college meet that featured 34 teams.

McKendree University from Illinois, won the meet with 194 points. The Bearcats feature three wrestlers from the 907 in Kimber, Lucas and McKenzie Cook of Homer.

The University of Jamestown from North Dakota placed fifth in the team race with 94 points. The Jimmies also feature three Alaskans in Andrews Joycelyn Katcheak of Stebbins and Andrea Prince of Kotlik.

Kimber, of Mt. Edgecumbe High fame, won four of five matches to finish second at 191 pounds.

The sophomore knocked off the Nos. 1 and 4 seeds en route to reaching the finals, where she dropped a 9-6 decision to 2-time national champion Paige Baines.

Andrews, of Mt. Edgecumbe High fame, posted a 3-2 record to place fifth at 191.

The sophomore earned two pins and a decision.

Andrews was coming off winning her weight class at the Waldorf Open.

Lucas, of Eielson High fame, prevailed in four of six matches to finish seventh at 101.

The freshman won by a 14-3 technical fall over Alaura Couch of Grand View University in the seventh-place match.

In terms of the other Alaskans, Prince was 2-2 at 155, Cook went 2-2 at 155 and Katcheak lost both matches at 143.
