Now that he’s adjusted to his surroundings in the Australian Baseball League, Anchorage’s Jonny Homza has really picked up his batting.
Buoyed by a five-game hitting streak, the 20-year-old with the Auckland Tuatara raised his average 71 points to .265 in the last week.
Homza, of South High fame, is hitting .381 against left-handers.
He has hit two home runs, three doubles and seven RBIs in 16 games.
Defensively, he has played nine games at catcher and seven games at third base, and owns a .986 fielding percentage on 73 total chances.
The third-year player and 2017 fifth-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres organization last summer was promoted to Class-A Tri-City after two years of rookie ball.
