Homza first batter in Auckland history to go 5-for-5 at the plate
Anchorage’s Jonny Homza made history in the Australian Baseball League by becoming the first Auckland Tuatara batter to have five base hits in a game.
The 20-year-old catcher finished 5-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored as Auckland beat the Sydney Blue Sox 16-2.
The Tuatara (19-13) maintained their spot atop the division, 4.5 games ahead of the Brisbane Bandits and Canberra Cavalry.
Homza, of South High fame, is now hitting .297 in 31 games with five doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
The five hits were a career high. His previous high was three hits set on four occasions.
Homza is a 2017 fifth-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres. Last summer he played for Class-A Tri-City of the Northwest League.
