Bethany Carstens of Kenai is shaping up to become the best 3-point shooter in a decade for Chicago State University women’s basketball.

The freshman sharpshooter currently ranks No. 4 all-time in single-season 3-point percentage (.418) and is approaching the top 10 for most 3-pointers made (46) in a single season.

She has made at least one 3-pointer in 19 of 20 games and knocked down multiple 3s in a game 14 times.

Carstens, of Nikiski High fame, found her rhythm against New Mexico State as she pumped in 3-of-7 from downtown on her way to scoring a season-high 23 points.

The 5-foot-9 guard also grabbed seven rebounds, snagged a season-high three steals and played her first full game of 40 minutes.

Carstens is Chicago State’s second-leading scorer at 11.9 points per game.

Her 3-point percentage is the best for a Chicago State player since Courtney Waldon’s .440 clip in 2010.

Carstens also ranks third on the team with 3.3 rebounds per game, with her seven boards against New Mexico State being one shy of her season high.
