Hebard named Alaska Sports Hall of Fame’s Athlete of the Week

April 20, 2020

Ruthy Hebard of Fairbanks was named our Alaska Athlete of the Week after becoming only the fourth Alaskan to be drafted into the WNBA.

The West Valley graduate is slated to begin her career in the world’s top women’s basketball league later this year after being chosen by the Chicago Sky with the eighth pick in the 2020 WNBA draft, the second highest pick ever for an Alaskan.

Hebard was recently named the McCain Award winner as the nation’s top power forward and was selected first-team All American. She leaves the University of Oregon as only the second Alaskan to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her collegiate career.

The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
