Multi-sport star Brantley III bound for Dickinson State

Soldotna High multi-sport star Galen Brantley III is off to Dickinson State University in North Dakota this fall.  He received athletic and academic scholarships to compete in both football and track while Majoring in Pre-Med.  Galen had a decorated athletic career for the Stars.  In football he was  a three-time all-state football player who was a force on both sides of the ball while helping the Stars win four straight state championships.  In hockey, he was named all-conference three times while racking up 145 career points.  And he was also one of the top shot putters and discus throwers in the state.  Galen graduated with a 4.04 GPA.  His father, and Stars head football coach had this to say:  “Galen started out as my ballboy as soon as he could get the ball back to the official. Being a coaches kid isn’t easy but he never complained. He just showed up and worked his tail off.  It’s heartbreaking he won’t be on the sideline with me on game days after so many years but he has bigger and better things ahead.  It’s been an honor watching him grow up.”
