West Valley soccer star Simpson to play at CSM

Vaughn Simpson is a central defender and captain for the West Valley High School Boys Soccer team. As a freshman, he was on the Runner-Up Wolfpack team that went 19-1, succumbing to South in a thrilling shootout in the Alaska State High School Championship in their first loss of the season.  He played to the state semis his junior year (16-2-2).  He was looking forward to his senior year with his young promising West Valley squad and coaches until it was cancelled due to COVID19.   Vaughn was named first team All Conference in 2018 and 2019. He played competitively and defended the backlines for Rush Selects Blue, Rush Alaska 01 team, Eclipse Soccer Club, Arctic Winter Games and ODP.  He is a 2020 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year nominee. Vaughn is committed to play soccer at Colorado School of Mines and plans to study Electrical Engineering/Computer Science. He is graduating as Salutatorian in his 2020 class. In his free time he enjoys alpine and backcountry skiing, designing and flying drones, and volunteering at Greenstar Recycling.
