Chugiak’s Nelson to run for BYU

Chugiak High School’s Hyrum Nelson graduates as one of the top high school runners in Alaska.  In cross country, he set a Mustang school record with a 15:19.00 5K time.  He also helped set a new school record in the 4×800 in 2018, with a team time of 8:05.46 at the Brian Young Invitational and he was 2nd in state in the 1600m and third in state in the 3200m as a junior. Hyrum is an honor student, who besides running, enjoys skiing, cooking and rock climbing.  He received an offer from Brigham Young University, where he will run until leaving temporarily for his mission.  Hyrum says running on the NCAA Mens DI national championship team, is a dream come true.
