December 7, 2020

Anchorage hoops standout  JT Thor was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after scoring in double figures against the No. 1 team in college basketball.

Playing in only his second college basketball game, the Auburn University freshman scored 11 points and added three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a loss to Gonzaga.

The 6-foot-10 power forward, who moved out of state after his sophomore year at West Anchorage High School, did not start playing basketball until the 7th grade.

Thor is ranked by ESPN as the 45th best player nationally in the freshman class.

The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
