Led by big-play specialists like Anchorage’s Presley Piliati and Soldotna’s Aaron Faletoi, the Dickinson State University defense was well represented on the North Star Athletic Association all-conference football team.

Both defensive linemen were both named to the first team – the only Alaskans honored by the NAIA conference on offense, defense and special teams.

Dickinson State finished 9-0 and won a sixth straight North Star title.

The Blue Hawks gave up the fewest points per game (14.4) in the league, with Piliati and Faletoi serving as the first line of defense.

Piliati, of East High fame, ranked top-10 in the North Star in both sacks and tackles for loss.

The 6-foot-1, 285-pound senior racked up 29 tackles in eight games, including 11 solo tackles eight tackles for loss. He also had four sacks.

His ability to break through the offensive line and disturb an opponent’s rhythm proved to be huge factor in helping Dickinson State post a perfect season.

Faletoi, of Soldotna High fame, made a huge impression in his first season of college football.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound freshman ranked 12th in the league with seven tackles for loss.

He made 17 tackles in nine games, added two sacks, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery.
