Hall to take selection hiatus, will honor Class of 2020 next year
The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame decided not to select a new class of inductees this year. The Class of 2020, who had their April induction ceremony cancelled due to the covid pandemic, will be honored in a ceremony during 2021 providing it can safely be held.
The tentative timeframe for honoring the Class of 2020 is April, 2021 but the board of directors will assess by the end of the January whether there is aa need to further postpone the ceremony date.
The Class of 2020 is highlighted by running pioneer Marcie Trent and hockey professional Matt Carle and is joined by the Yukon 800 riverboat race from the event category and the University of Alaska Anchorage’s stunning upset of Boston College in the 1991 NCAA Hockey Tournament from the moment category.
The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame plans to conduct its next selection in November, 2021.
