Williams lets loose in Duke debut to start indoor track season
Duke University freshman Hailey Williams of Delta Junction hit the track for the start of the indoor season at the Orange and Purple Elite meet in Clemson, South Carolina.
Facing fellow Atlantic Coast Conference runners from Clemson and Georgia Tech, the Alaska sprinter finished second in the 60-meter dash and ninth in the 300 in her college debut.
Williams clocked a time of 7.72 seconds in the 60 as Duke swept the top three places. For reference, her time would have ranked in the top-5 on the team for all of last season.
In high school, she was a seven-time state champion and the winner of the 2020 Alaska Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
In 2018, Williams became the first Alaska high school girl in 37 years to break the 12-second barrier in the 100.
