Aniak musher Diehl named Alaska Athlete of the Week

February 22, 2021

Aniak musher Richie Diehl was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after winning the Kuskokwim 300, a race he grew up watching and dreaming of winning.

Diehl, 35, posted a time of 36 hours, 8 minutes and took a 43-minute win over his good friend, Pete Kaiser, a five-time champion from Bethel who finished second.

His victory came two weeks after a win in Bethel’s Bogus Creek 150. Diehl finished 3rd in his previous two Kusko 300 efforts.

The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
