Fairbanks runner Widman named Alaska Athlete of the Week

Cross country runner Faith Widman of Fairbanks was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after posting her second straight victory to start the NAIA season.

The Oregon Tech University junior cross-country runner won the Lane Community College Invitational in Eugene, Oregon, over the weekend in impressive fashion, posting a 35-second win in the women’s 5-K field.  The West Valley High grad clocked a time in 18:37.7.

At the Bushnell Invitational three weeks ago in Cottage Grove, Oregon, Widman went even faster, crossing in 18:23.3. These are the first two wins for the Alaskan in 15 career starts.

The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
