Soldotna’s Brenner Furlong of the Dakota State University indoor track team ripped off a time of 49.91 seconds in the 400-meter run to hit the NAIA B standard.
The junior sprinter placed fourth out of 17 men in the race at the Mount Marty Lancer Invitational in Yankton, South Dakota.
Furlong, of Soldotna High fame, ranks No. 22 in the 400 in the NAIA this season as he’s shaved a full second off his previous season-best time set three weeks ago.
At this meet he was also part of Dakota State’s third-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay, clocking a time of 3:26.86.
In 2019, Furlong was part of a school record in the 4×400 at his first appearance at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
Furlong’s relay team finished with a time of 3:16.87, which broke the school’s previous record of 3:21.70 set in 1999.
Furlong also plays football for Dakota State and has racked up more than 500 career rushing yards and four touchdowns, including one on special teams.
