Hoops standout Huffman named Alaska Athlete of the Week
Anchorage’s Brandon Huffman was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after being voted both the Ohio Valley Conference’s Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week as a Jacksonville State University basketball player.
The 6-foot-10 senior had 36-point, 8-dunk, 12-rebound performance in a weekend sweep of Morgan State and Austin Peay.
In the first game, he finished with 16 points and eight rebounds in a 85-82 road win over Murray State. He followed that up by scoring a career-high 20 points in a 76-70 victory over Austin Peay.
Huffman, of West High fame, is now averaging a career-best 10.4 points per game in 16 games with the NCAA D1 team in Alabama.
The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
