Wyche nets season-high 26 points to help Tyler earn series sweep
Da’Zhon Wyche of Anchorage put the University of Texas-Tyler on his back and carried the Patriots to an 85-75 overtime win over Cameron to complete the Lone Star Conference series sweep.
The junior guard had a hand in 11 of his team’s 17 points in OT and finished with a season-high 26 points.
The 5-foot-9 Alaskan sank 10-of-17 shots from the floor for a season high in field goals. He was 5-for-10 from 3-point land to match his season high in 3s.
Wyche drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer 30 seconds into OT and then assisted on another 3-pointer a minute later to put Texas-Tyler in control for good.
He also knocked down a pair of jumpers inside the final 1:18, including an and-1 three-point play that pushed the lead to 83-71.
He’s made 23-of-71 3-pointers in 12 games this season.
Wyche, of West High fame, keyed his team’s two-game sweep of Cameron by averaging 16.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
Earlier this season, he surpassed 1,000 points for his college career. Most of his production came in junior college, but he’s starting to heat up for the NCAA D2 school in Texas.
Wyche has reached the 20-point plateau three times in the last seven games to boost his season average to 12.9 points per game.
