Doutrive plays hero in NIT game, makes winning shot for BSU
Anchorage’s Devonaire Doutrive scored the winning basket with just 10.1 seconds left to lift Boise State to an 85-84 win over SMU in the first round of the NIT.
The junior guard cashed in a second-chance opportunity off an offensive rebound to lift the Broncos to their 19th win on the season.
Doutrive, of West High fame, started in the backcourt and finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
He is the first Alaskan to record double figures in a NIT game since Anchorage’s Devon Bookert of Florida State in 2014.
The game-winning bucket was the only field goal in the second half for Doutrive, who scored eight points in the opening 12 minutes of the game to fuel Boise State’s 32-18 lead.
Doutrive has reached double figures in four of the last five games and is averaging 8.8 on the season.
Boise State will play March 25 in the NIT quarterfinals against the winner between Memphis and Dayton.
