Mateaki bags hat trick, headlines Alaska all-star team now making plays for EOU
Anchorage’s Kana Mateaki got her shot, and she didn’t miss.
The Eastern Oregon University sophomore was added to the starting lineup for the second half and responded with three goals in a 17-minute stretch in a 10-0 victory over Multnomah College.
Mateaki played a season-high 40 minutes and scored for the first time in 17 career games with the NAIA Mountaineers dating back to last year.
The former Dimond High star was the Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year in 2020.
Mateaki took over against Multnomah with three consecutive goals in the 53rd minute, 62nd minute and 80th minute, pushing EOU’s lead to 8-0.
She’s one of four Alaskans who play for Eastern Oregon. The other three Anchorage players are senior Natalie Goeth (Service), sophomore Kasey Johnson (South) and freshman Gracie Hoover (South).
Goeth is a starting defender who has collected one assist in six games this season. A week ago, she played a season-high 78 minutes in a 1-0 win over Westmont.
She started her career at Eastern Oregon in 2017 before transferring to Arizona Christian only to transfer back to EOU.
Johnson is a sophomore midfielder and defender. She came off the bench to play a season-high 44 minutes against Multnomah and take a shot on goal.
She has started 11 of 18 career games and posted one goal and one assist.
Hoover is a midfielder who has started each of the last two games.
