Moorhead selected GNAC volleyball defensive player of the week
Nobody is a bigger fan of Chugiak’s Emily Moorhead than University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball coach Brian Scott.
He recruited her out of high school and has since seen the senior become one of the staples of the program.
“One of the great things about Em is she is always looking for ways that she can contribute to the team’s success,” Scott said.
Moorhead showcased her skills last week as the Nanooks opened league play in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference by sweeping a combined six sets against Western Oregon and Saint Martin’s on the road.
The 5-foot-11 middle blocker averaged 1.83 blocks and 1.17 kills per set.
She dominated the net against Western Oregon with a season-high eight blocks, one shy of her career high set in 2019. She came with three blocks against Saint Martin’s.
As a result, Moorhead was selected GNAC volleyball defensive player of the week for the first time in her college career.
“Em is a great teammate,” Scott said. “If she’s not producing kills, then she wants to block well, if that doesn’t work then she’ll do all she can to be a distraction to the block on the other side.”
