Tomsich rallies for 2nd at Munich Marathon
Fairbanks native Tony Tomsich rolled through midway point of the Munich Marathon on October 10 in sixth place, a great showing for an urban international race.
He was just getting warmed up.
Tomsich followed up a first half in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 51 seconds by crushing the second half in 1:08:39. The surge rallied him to second place overall in 2:19:30 in a race that doubled as the German National Championships.
Alexander Hirschhaueser won in 2:18:38.
Tomsich, who has German heritage and now lives there, represented LAV Stadtwerke Tuebingen.
Tomsich was not far off his personal best of 2:18:49, which he set in April 2019 to narrowly qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
In late Augusti, Tomsich visited Alaska and ran the Equinox Marathon for fun in 2:51, a time that would have made him a favorite in the September 18 race had he been able to participate.
