Brandon Dubinsky scored – he sits No. 2 all-time among Alaskans in career NHL goals (153), assists (285) and points (438).
Dubinsky defended – he proved a penalty-killing staple for the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets while scoring an Alaska-record 11 short-handed strikes, won 53 percent of his career face-offs and often played matchup minutes against the opposing top line.
And the Anchorage native agitated – his 905 career penalty minutes lead all Alaska NHLers.
All in all, the center is regarded as the most complete two-way player ever among Alaska NHLers.
Dubinsky, a 2004 second-round draft pick of the Rangers, debuted in the NHL for them late in the 2006-07 season, and carved out a 13-season, 823-game career before a persistent wrist injury prompted retirement.
Dubinsky’s 2010-11 season with the Rangers proved a testament to his all-around game in the world’s best league. He led the Blueshirts in goals (24), assists (30) and points (54) across 77 games, while accumulating 100 penalty minutes.
He forged nine NHL seasons in which he bagged double-digit goals and seven seasons in which he delivered 40 or more points.
And he got his nose dirty. He fought 43 times in his NHL career, whether to stick up for a teammate, or himself, or try to tilt the momentum in a game.
Dubinsky three times represented Team USA in senior international tournaments. He skated in the 2008 and 2010 World Championships and in the 2016 World Cup, and furnished 6-8—14 totals across 12 games in those competitions.
