The signature program of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

Healthy Futures program was established at nearly the same time as The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.  Their shared mission of promoting a healthy youth population led to several collaborations. In 2011, Healthy Futures became the signature program of The Hall.

The goal of Healthy Futures is simple: empower Alaska’s youth to build the habit of daily physical activity.  The two core elements of the program are the Healthy Futures activity log (to develop the habit of daily physical activity) and event support (to increase youth attendance at community recreational events).

Over 20,000 Alaskan youth from over 200 elementary schools statewide participate in the Healthy Futures Challenge. We are in the beginning stages of developing our middle school program.  Over 115 events statewide receive support from Healthy Futures.

A recipient of the 2013 President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Community Leadership Award,  Healthy Futures was founded in 2003 by the late Bonny Sosa Young and her husband Sam Young, two parents concerned with the growing obesity epidemic in Alaska.
