About the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

Our mission is to Teach, Honor and Inspire

Established in 2006, the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame  is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization (Tax ID 81-0649085)  founded on the belief that Alaskans need an institution that shines a light on all that is positive about sports in Alaska.  The state has a rich tradition in sports.  Its timeline weaves through the fabric of life from the centuries-old Alaska Native games, to the dog weight-pulls of the Klondike era, to the early 20th century alpine exploration on Denali, to the serum run and subsequent Iditarod dogsled race, to excellence in winter sports and mountaineering, to outstanding achievements in mainstream American sports.

TEACH

To educate Alaskans and visitors to the state about the people, events, and moments in Alaskan sport that brought positive distinction to the state.

HONOR

To honor and preserve the memory of the significant people, events, and moments in Alaskan sport.

INSPIRE

To promote a healthy youth population by providing functions, exhibits, and activities that will inspire children to strive for success in their own lives.The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame will foster and instill the positive attributes of sport.

Programs and Activities of The Hall include:

  • Annual induction ceremony and reception
  • Enshrinement gallery at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport
  • Alaska Sports Report to recognize current Alaskan athletes making good, the
  • Healthy Futures program.  The signature program of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame, Healthy Futures works to empower  Alaska’s youth with the daily habit of physical exercise.
